QOHO Spring Festival Holiday Notice 2025

Spring Festival Holiday Notice 2025

As we approach the vibrant season of Chinese New Year, we at QOHO would like to share the significance and history behind this cherished holiday. Known as the Spring Festival in China, this holiday is steeped in centuries-old traditions and marks the beginning of a new lunar calendar year. It's a time to honor family, reflect on the past year, and usher in good fortune for the year ahead.

A Journey Through History

The origins of Chinese New Year can be traced back over 3,500 years to ancient Chinese legends and agricultural traditions. One of the most famous stories involves the mythical beast Nian, who would terrorize villages at the end of each lunar year. Villagers discovered that Nian feared loud noises, bright lights, and the color red, leading to the customs of setting off firecrackers, hanging red decorations, and performing lion dances.

In later dynasties, the Spring Festival became a time for honoring ancestors and deities, reflecting the deep cultural value placed on family and tradition. Today, the holiday is celebrated not only in China but by communities around the world, making it a truly global event.

Festivities and Traditions

The celebration typically lasts 15 days, beginning on New Year's Eve and culminating with the Lantern Festival. Each day has its unique customs, but some highlights include:

  • Reunion Dinner: Families gather on New Year's Eve for a feast symbolizing unity and prosperity. Dishes like dumplings, fish, and rice cakes carry special meanings of wealth and good fortune.

  • Red Envelopes (红包, hóngbāo): Elders gift red envelopes filled with money to younger generations, symbolizing blessings and good luck.

  • Lion and Dragon Dances: These energetic performances are believed to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity to communities.

  • Cleaning and Decorating: Homes are cleaned before the new year to sweep away bad luck, then adorned with red banners and lanterns to welcome good fortune.

2025: The Year of the Snake

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2025 will be the Year of the Snake. People born in this year are said to possess traits like intelligence, charm, and creativity. The Snake symbolizes transformation and renewal, making it an auspicious time to set new goals and embrace change.

As we prepare for this exciting time, we encourage you to take inspiration from the traditions of Chinese New Year to reflect, reconnect, and celebrate with loved ones.
